No, I’m still not done reliving our Iceland adventures. If only I could be back there right now standing in front of a waterfall drinking whiskey in my coffee, oh the stuff dreams are made of. If you recall in my complete Iceland guide post, I mentioned I would be bringing you a packing list post for her + him. Today we’re starting with the “her” portion [girls rule, boys drool] so in the incredible event that you too are traveling to Iceland in the next year or so, this packing post will be helpful to you. A few things to note before we jump in:
We traveled to Iceland in October when the weather was in the mid 40’s with occasional rain and sun. When doing our research, we did learn that Iceland’s temperature doesn’t fluctuate all that much with the coldest temps [January] are around 32 degrees Fahrenheit while the warmest month [July] is 52 degrees Fahrenheit. All of that to say, regardless of the time of the year that you travel to Iceland, your packing list is going to be very similar. To make things as easy as possible, I did a one stop shop at Backcountry prior to our departure to stock up on what I would need for our vacation. Because they are a premiere outdoor retailer, they had a TON of options that were perfect for my Icelandic needs. From waterproof boots to gloves, coats, puffer vests and more, they have it all. Additionally, they have customer service that is out of this world AND through 11/8 their “Big Brands Sale” where major brands (Patagonia, Marmot, Big Agnes, and others) are 30% off in-season styles! Another bonus? You can use the code YELLOW15 to snag 15% off your first order (doesn’t apply to items already 15% off or greater).
Here’s everything you need to know for what to take with you to Iceland!
It goes without saying that you’ll want a good quality coat while you are there. I went with this Lole Down Coat which is waterproof, warm and packed pretty easily. I would size up as I am wearing a small here and with layers underneath it was snug.
Next on the list, you absolutely need to bring waterproof boots. I brought a few different styles with me, however, that isn’t necessary. I would find one pair that you know will work with several outfits. Sorel are my go-to brand for waterproof boots because they are INSANELY comfortable and can easily be walked in all day long without any problems. This wedge pair I found myself wearing most often during our trip and know I will get so much use out of them this winter as well! They do run true to size.
Nearly all I wore while we were there were puffer vests and a pullover underneath. You will absolutely want to take a couple with you as they are a great way to stay warm but still feel like you can move around and enjoy yourself.
You will absolutely want to have a hat or three for your trip as it is a sure way to stay warm while looking cute. I would recommend getting a fleece lined option as possible [like this one] which will help keep the warm air from escaping! Here are a lot more options for that head of yours.
I found the easiest “purse” to carry around was a backpack. Being able to be hands free but to have a place to store your gloves, hats, scarves, waterproof pants, snacks, etc is crucial. I love this Herschel option as it comes in a ton of different colors and prints and was plenty big enough to store everything while we were out and about.
When in Iceland, one must relax in comfort and cozy pieces. After a day out and about in the elements, you’ll want warm pieces to snuggle up in to end your day. A must have on my list? These fleece lined socks. HEAVEN.
One of the BEST things about Iceland is their water. You can drink directly out of the tap and shoot, even some streams on the side of the road. We used a reusable water bottle the whole trip and are so glad we had them with us! You will also need to make sure to take a couple Power Adapters so that you can use your electronics, hair tools, etc!
And just like that, your bags should be packed and the only thing you’re left to worry about is if you want red or white wine on the flight over there 😉 Hopefully you found this post to be helpful – make sure to pin the image at the bottom of this post for an easy reference for whenever your trip may be!
Founder and creator of LIY, Erin turned her dream of a hobby blog into a full-time career which she now runs alongside the LIY team! When not in front of her computer screen [with a La Croix or wine in hand] or in front of a mirror taking mirror selfies, you can find Erin spending time on the water, cuddled up with her two pups and husband most likely watching the latest Shark Tank episode, or getting lost in an easy beach read.
“I feel like my entire makeup bag is just Tarte products” – actual words from the LIY Team. It’s no secret we’re BIG fans of Tarte Cosmetics around here. Between the trusty concealer we’ve been using for years and the lip balm we’re trying in every single shade, Tarte has become a staple in our […]
