New Year, New Skincare Routine: Items I’m Trying

Disclosure: Thank you to Sephora and ShopStyle for sponsoring today’s blog post. All products were selected, purchased and reviewed honestly by yours truly.

If there’s one thing I stepped up my game in last year, it was my skincare routine. Yes, the girl who used the same products since she doused herself in way too much foundation and eyeliner as thick as a raccoon’s eye circles and was never brave enough to put a new product on my face since the age of 12 stepped up her game. I know, that’s not saying much, but alas, I am proud and I don’t plan on quitting this “new year, new face” routine anytime soon. The unfortunate part of this story is that while I have gotten better about using new and different products, it’s because my skin is doing this thing called “aging” which translates to “wrinkles, droopy eyelids, saggy neck” and every other thing you swore you’d never experience when you were 18. It’s a beautiful thing this getting older thing…said nobody ever. BUT. There is hope. At least that’s the miracle I’m holding very tightly on to.

Insert Sephora. The holy grail of life-saving [basically] products. They carry all of the brands I love and use often. Just walking into a Sephora store makes me feel prettier. The thing however is that it can be a little intimidating on knowing where to even start [especially when you need it ALL]. To make the process easier on you when it comes to which new hot items are worth trying I thought I’d act as your resident guinea pig and give a few a try. Can I just say that when I tried all of the products that I am showing below I never felt more like a natural beauty with glowing dewy skin and every time I caught a peek of myself in a mirror I smiled loving the feel-good look-good products on my face. I think based on that statement alone, it’s a pretty good indication on my thoughts on these items.

Let’s dive into a few of the new arrivals and tried & true crowd faves I gave a shot and more about how I plan on incorporating into my new year, new skincare routine! Make sure you sign up to be a Beauty Insider to earn points on every dollar spent and unlock more member benefits.

First up, this LANEIGE – Hypoallergenic Cica Sleeping Mask [also considered the favorite of the group]. Where do I begin with this overnight sleeping mask? I feel like the packaging alone is a good place to start. I am obsessed with the look of this jar. So much so I am purposely leaving it out on my bathroom counter. Aside from its beauty, the mask itself is a hug in a mug [err, jar] for your face. You simply apply to clean moisturized skin and then go to sleep! Overnight it works its hydration magic. I woke up to skin that felt so moisturized and soothed. It suggests using this 2-3x a week and I am having a hard time not breaking the rules and use it every night. Side note: if you do have redness on your face, this helps take care of that as well!

Now that we got that magic maker out of the way, let’s dive into the second product I am most thrilled about. Insert this Stila Convertible Color: Dual Lip & Cheek Cream. If you know me at all, you know I am the queen of dead lips [aka completely naked, not the most pleasant looking lips] on a regular basis. This is mostly because I always forget to put anything on my lips so when I spotted this cream blush that doubles as a lipstick I knew I had to try it in hopes it would remind to put a dab or three on my lips during my makeup routine. Ladies, I can’t get over this. A few rubs on your cheeks and you have the glowiest, most natural looking color. I am using the shade Lillium and it’s a nice neutral light pink.

Next up, let’s talk about this Tatcha – The Serum Stick: Treatment & Touch Up Balm.Again with the packaging and appearance – since when did makeup and skincare get so freaking beautiful?! So what does this serum stick do you ask? I was asking myself the same thing when it arrived. While you can use it under your makeup you can also use it over makeup which is what I did. While it is made to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, creases, etc the thing I noticed the most was the hydration it provided. It did give me a dewy look which was nice, however, be careful about using it right under your eyes as I felt like it did take some of my under eye concealer off. I’m curious to keep using this product to see how to use it to its best benefit!

Last but not least, my must-have makeup item: concealer. I decided to give this Hourglass – Vanish Airbrush Concealer a try. If anything has “vanish” “airbrush” and “concealer” in the same sentence I’m game. I absolutely loved just how lightweight this concealer was while also knowing it’s crease-resistant, waterproof and provides a full coverage finish. I think it took me back for a little while because I am used to a heavier [also read: more cakey] under eye concealer so it kept tricking me into thinking I didn’t have anything on. I really love the applicator as well which makes applying a breeze!

So there we have it friend, a new year = a new skincare routine. For the items featured here + a few other favorite products of mine from Sephora, see widget below!
